The What Cheer? Brigade is a 20-piece brass band from Providence, RI, USA. They prove that great parties need no electricity. Since 2005, the band has been as likely to appear at community benefits as at all-night parties, playing bars, clubs, streets, libraries, cemeteries, weddings, bus stops, and playgrounds.
West Philadelphia Orchestra is a unique live ensemble whose influences range from Sun Ra to Bulgarian brass bands. They began playing Romanian ballads, Macedonian folk-dance songs, Bulgarian wedding music, and Klezmer in late 2006, and have continued expanding their repertoire of Eastern European music.
Teddy Valentine, also known by the stage name Afropanther, is a DJ, performer, and producer. Afropanther is a Pioneer Valley favorite amongst fans of all different demographics. Before Northampton, Afropanther lived in Montreal, Quebec for 3 years.http://hawksandreed.ticketfly.com/event/1538165/
Since 2005, the band has been as likely to appear at community benefits as at all-night parties, playing bars, clubs, streets, libraries, cemeteries, weddings, bus stops, and playgrounds. In 2010, we joined Anchor Brain Records to re-release our second CD, We Blow, You Suck and Classy: Live in Pawtucket in 2011.
We’ve played with Blondie, Dan Deacon, Man Man, Japanther, Dengue Fever, Okkervil River, Lightning Bolt, Ninjasonik, Mika Miko, Wolf Parade, Matt and Kim, Slavic Soul Party, Javelin, Sage Francis, and Chain and the Gang. We’ve appeared at Lollapalooza, The Newport Folk Festival, Aarhus Festuge (Denmark), Sziget (Hungary), and Guca (Serbia), offering mobile moments of intense revelry.
“Thrillingly competent, with undimmable energy…an explosion of good cheer.”
-The New York Times
“They never actually took a stage, but Providence, RI’s What Cheer? dominated the Newport Folk Fest like a headliner.”

“‘Zla S’dba’ is a joyful Balkan dance number that gets everyone in the room swaying. Bulgarian language skills not required; the song’s irresistibly celebratory spirit needs no translation.” – Rachel, NPR Tiny Desk Contest
“Despite a sizeable portion of the crowd likely not understanding the various languages of the southeastern Europe region, there always seems to be a supernatural synergy between them and the band.” – JUMP Philly
“– this is by far one of the most energetic acts in the city. Check them out, they host the Balkan Dance party at Underground Arts [now at Franky Bradley’s].” – Get Lucid
Afropanther has been based in the valley for almost 3 years now and this past August has left the Iron Horse Entertainment Group, where they used to hold Hip Hop Takeover every Tuesdays and #THIRST DJ DANCE PARTY every 3rd Friday at the Basement in Northampton.
They have also been booked at Iron Horse Music Hall, The Monkey Bar, Bishops Lounge, Pearl Street Nightclub, as well as at all Five Colleges (Smith College, UMass, Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College) for year round events. Afropanther has won the heart of university students and is popular amongst the local townies in the Pioneer Valley/Five College area. In April 2017, Afropanther was asked by the Mount Holyoke Student's Activities Committee to open up for Waka Flocka Flame for the school's annual SPRING JAM. Whether behind the turntables or front and center, Afropanther is sure to get you dancing and into the groove.
