The Definite Maybes
The Definite Maybes started coming to life as Melanie Mangum (vocals) and Charlie Mallet (guitar, vocals) performed with the area band Melanie and the Blue Shots.

Charlie is the musical heart of The Definite Maybes' original sound. He has played guitar since the late 70's with several bands based in Massachusetts including 5th Wheel, Hot Pursuit, Alias, Exit 18, Crawdade Creek and Melanie and the Blue Shots. His passion for playing and powerful, energetic, unique stylings on lead guitar has led to several guest performances with bands and artists in New England. His creativity at crafting original music and signature guitar style is the driving force behind The Definite Maybes unique sound.

Melanie is the vocal soul of The Definite Maybes' original sound. She has performed with Melanie and the Blue Shots for several years. Her passion for music and love of singing has led her to guest vocal with other bands and perform at open mics and music jams in New England. She has been called a “small-town lady with a Big City voice”, and she brings her sweet and soulful vocals to every performance. Her talent for crafting lyrics found a collaborative home with Charlie Mallet's music and helped create the Definite Maybes original sound.

The Definite Maybes were blessed to feature the talent of Scott Monette on bass and Doug Plavin on drums for their 2016 debut CD, "Leaving The Station".

Their live performances have featured stellar talent on bass and guitar over the last few years, and their current, steady backbone on bass and guitar features Doug MacLeod on drums and Connie Putnam on bass.

Connie Putnam's musical journey spans 62 years. The journey started with an old Harmony guitar in fifth grade, and then singing gospel and choral music, playing guitar in a duo with mentor Jim Long. He formed a number of musical acts, recorded and produced two LP albums at Ace Recording Studios in Boston, MA, and in the 1960's played with “The Yankee Pedlars”, performing in clubs with them for the TV show “Hullabaloo Scene” tour, and as a frequent opening act at the Mountain Park Ballroom for such acts as The Animals, The Tremelos, The Velvet Underground, The J. Geils Band, Pete Seger and Tom Rush, and the Cowsills in their club in RI - to name a few. His blues and R&B chops led him to play bass with The Arthur James Band from 2012-2015. Connie's musical journey led him to The Definite Maybes in July 2017, where he joins his years of experience and love of music to the Definite Maybes sound.

Doug MacLeod has brought his move and groove beat to several acts throughout the region, most notably with The Barrett Anderson Band of Cambridge. His journeyman talents, performing with other regional acts like Stone Line and Sacred Ground Grooves, led him to The Definite Maybes as they began crafting their sound in 2015, and he joined The Definite Maybes in December 2016. His years of experience and his pleasure and passion for playing are evident every time he picks up his sticks, whatever the act or venue. His grooving yet driving style brings a welcome beat to back The Definite Maybes sound.

Whatever the story - whether it's performing their version of a story from a classic blues or rock cover, or a creation of their own – it may be a get-up-and-dance story, it may be a simmering ballad or heart-wrenching torch song, it may be just a case of the blues kinda thing – the Definite Maybes will definitely tell it, sing it, preach it, play it!
